Upholstery
Upholstery comes from two Middle English words "up" and "holden." When combined the term "upholstery" was coined to reflect the ability of upholstery to "hold up" the furniture's occupant. Upholstery can be made up of fabrics, springs, webbing, leather or padding, and it is generally applied by an upholsterer.
