Missionaries
While missionaries are primarily associated with Christian religious groups, many other religions also have missionary organizations that work to spread the word about their faith and to help improve the lives of those people in need. The Islamic religion, the Jewish religion and the Buddhist religion, all offer some form of missionary work. However, each religion approaches conversion differently.
Christian Missionaries
One of the first known Christian missionaries was the Catholic missionary. This missionary program stretches back to the 1st century A.D. The Protestant missionary program began around 1732, the British Missionary Society began around 1795 and the Evangelical Church missionary program began in the 20th century. The focus of Christian missionaries is two fold. First of all they try to convert all non-Christians to Christianity, and secondly they try to spread the word of Jesus Christ by providing charity services to those in need.
People who are involved in Christian missionaries need to have a missionary themed business card. These cards can be handed out to potential converts, to missionary recruits and to people interested in donating to the cause. They can also be handed out to vendors and suppliers.
Jewish Missionaries
The Jewish faith is unique when it comes to missionary programs. They generally do not advocate aggressive conversion programs. They instead focus on those who have expressed interest in the Jewish faith, those who are married to Jews and on those who have strayed from their faith and heritage because of assimilation into a Christian dominated society.
Jewish missionary professionals need a business card that features symbols that mean something to people of the Jewish faith. Their cards also need to focus on the rich culture and the strong ethnical brotherhood that is available to followers of Judaism.
Islamic Missionaries
The Islamic missionaries have been very successful in converting people to this religion. The philosophy behind Islamic missionaries is to invite people to Islam. This philosophy has allowed this religion to grow from a population of one to a population of over 1 billion people in a relatively short period of time. Members of Islamic missionaries can take advantage of the attractive Islamic graphics to create their business cards. They may also want to include multi-lingual translations of their business card information to reach more people.
Buddhism Missionaries
Like the three other main religions of the world, Buddhism also has missionary programs. Influenced by their contact with Christian missionaries, Buddhism missionaries use education, demonstrations and charity as their tools to win over converts. People who work with Buddhism missionaries need to design their business cards to reflect their target demographics. This means that multi-lingual text will need to be incorporated into the design of the card, as will traditional Buddhist figures and icons that will be appealing to the culture being targeted.
