What is Forestry?
Forestry is the science of managing forests. This science looks at how forests can be managed to reduce erosion, provide healthy habitats for wildlife, to improve the quality of the watershed and to provide timber for industries and home construction. The art of forestry has a long history that stretches back hundreds of years to the Han Dynasty in China.

The U.S. Forest Service employs a large staff of foresters. This agency is responsible for managing the forests on public lands. They are also a leader in the research and development sector for forest management.
